As one of the prominent companies in this business, we know that this website is visited by numerous far eastern manufacturers of similar product every day. Although we do not import from the far east, as many of our competitors do, we can but hope that the following message may be noted by our 'hopeful' suppliers, their friends & families.

Poaching of both elephant, for their ivory, and rhino, for their horn, has escalated alarmingly over the past year.

Some estimates suggest that as many as 35,000 elephant were slaughtered last year and in South Africa alone a rhino is being lost to poachers every 20 hours. This new epidemic is being fueled by unprecedented demand from the Far East - primarily China. Whilst increased protection in the field is critical, the major challenge is to eradicate the demand from Asia. TUSK is working hard in collaboration with other groups to change mindsets & educate consumers.

Rhino horn can change hands in China at £40.000 per kilo, making it worth more than gold.  With an average horn weighing 7kg it is little wonder the poachers are willing to risk their lives. To counter the upsurge in rhino poaching, all kinds of measures are being considered, including injecting the horns with arsenic to prevent their use as traditional medicine in China.
