| PRODUCTS FITTED EXTERNALLY Environmental conditions can have dramatic effect on the stability of surface finishes. Industrial pollution, high humidity, sea air and acidic rain may cause a finish to deteriorate. Regular cleaning with good wax polish (not aerosol spray) is recommended. PLATED FINISHES-will also benefit from the occasional use of chrome cleaner, followed by a wipe with a cloth impregnated with a light oil.
BRONZE will benefit from the occasional wipe with a cloth impregnated with a light oil.
When the finish of LACQUERED BRASS has been broken, remove the lacquer using a soft brush with acetone thinner such as Nitramores . Then carefully clean and dry the fitting before using a metal polish applied using a soft cloth. The fitting can now be repolished as and when required. Lacquer coatings cannot be guaranteed. |
| UNLACQUERED BRASS & BRONZE To retain the original finish regular polishing with a good quality metal polish is essential. However, if the intention is to allow the surface to age through oxidisation then no attention needs to be give.
Other products that have been found to be useful for cleaning brass include - Tomato ketchup, Worcester sauce, Non-gel Toothpaste or a mixture of 1 part Lemon juice with 3 parts salt. All these need to be rinsed off carefully afterwards & the brass buff dried. with |
